Pinterest is a ‘virtual pinboard’ that allows users to ‘pin’ their likes and interests for all to see.  It lets the millions of users share their plans, thoughts and hobbies with the world - or in their words “Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web.  People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.  Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people.  Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests”

Their homepage is full of delightful recipes, outfit ideas and gorgeous pictures - but the great thing about it, is once you’re a member then everything is tailored just for you.  It’s similar to ‘magazine’ software to build your own magazine based on articles you like...the more you take an active role, the more the software ‘knows’ what you like and continues to build your perfect issue!  Pinterest works in a very similar way; the more you use it, the better your search results.

Pinterest is only a young company - launched in March 2010 (but according to Wikipedia, was being created in late 2009) and one of Time Magazines “50 Best Websites of 2011”, Pinterest is run from their base in California and from the looks of their website, it seems like a really happy team!  If you believe the data on Wikipedia, it would seem as though visitor numbers are around 11,000,000 a week!  Well with figures like those...the world is their oyster!
