"Scrappy outsider startup Unthink.com, which bills itself as the “anti-Facebook,” is opening up its doors today, allowing in its first round of beta testers. The Tampa-based company with $2.5 million in funding from DouglasBay Capital sees itself as a more open, more honest form of social networking – one where its users are the owners of their data, and not the product being sold to advertisers" -- Sarah Perez for TechCrunch

Unthink are marketing themselves as the 'anti-Facebook' for a reason.  Apparently they've had enough of the 800 million+ users who are seemingly obsessed and are forging their own path, by advertising that the people who are on the site will be 'owners' as appose to 'users'.  We are all aware that anything we put on Facebook is owned by the Company itself, including all uploaded photographs - but Unthink says that everything uploaded to their site is still wholly owned by us.

CEO Natasha Dedis explains in the TechCruch article that Unthink was born out of necessity - her son wanted to sign up for his own Facebook account, but upon Natasha reading the terms of service, she felt something else needed to be done.  As most people these days feel, if you're not on Facebook then you're committing social suicide - perhaps Unthink will be the first to create a little competition in the currently single-track race for social networking superpower!
